Advice For Honeymoons Impacted by COVID-19 Pandemic

It’s no secret that we’re in the midst of unprecedented times as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Nearly everyone worldwide is feeling the impact of this outbreak.

While we fully understand the need to practice social distancing and restrict travel to save lives, we also understand the disappointment and stress this is causing for interrupted wedding plans.

Your wedding is supposed to be one of the most exciting and happiest moments in your lifetime. You’ve likely been meticulously planning this event for the last year (or more), making it even more heartbreaking to reschedule all of the hard work that has gone into making it just the way you envisioned.

As a full service travel agency we’ve spent the last 3 weeks working nearly around the clock to get clients back home and rescheduling long-awaited vacations, honeymoons & destination weddings for our valued clients.

We know that navigating the options to reschedule or refund interrupted travel plans can be extremely tricky and stressful. And for those brides and grooms that have booked their honeymoon direct with hotels, travel websites or discount agencies like Costco Travel, you’ve been left to sort through this on your own so we’ve shared a few pieces of advice to hopefully make it easier.

1. Advisories are changing real time.

Federal, state and local advisories are changing daily (sometimes hourly), and with these come real-time adjustments to travel policies.

2. Be prepared for long hold times & slow replies.

The COVID-19 pandemic has been the largest global travel interruption since the 9/11 terrorist attack temporarily closing international borders, grounding airplanes and closing hotels. Tourism companies are working overtime to handle the massive waves of interruptions and cancellations these actions have caused.

3. Airlines & hotels do not have the same policies.

Because these are separate entities often their policies for rescheduling or refunds will not be the same. You’ll need to be aware of the “fine print” for ALL elements (air, hotel, tours, transfers, etc) within your travel itinerary.

4. Prepare alternative options.

Essentially the COVID-19 pandemic is shortening the 2020 travel window. We’re already seeing limited availability for late summer and fall as spring travelers are rescheduling their trips to these later dates.

5. Read the fine print of travel insurance policies.

Currently, most travel insurance policies are not covering cancellations as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Some are allowing you to modify the travel dates to keep travel insurance coverage for a rescheduled trip.

For honeymooners that find themselves overwhelmed interpreting all of these rules, advisories, and policies we’re offering FREE professional travel advice to anyone that has an interrupted trip as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. We’ll assist you with navigating through options to reschedule or assist with understanding the confusing options for refunds and future travel credits.
