Where To Travel Fall 2020

Fall travel does look different this year. No German Oktoberfest. No European river cruises. No African safaris.

Although we’re still navigating ever-changing travel & quarantine restrictions, closed borders, and delayed passport processing, there are still incredible destinations open for travelers this fall.

If you’re feeling ready to adventure again or you just need a change of scenery to unplug and unwind, here are a few of our top travel destinations for Fall 2020.

National Parks

Every season brings different experiences within our National Parks. With cooler temperatures it’s a great time to visit dessert landscapes like Death Valley and Arches. During the fall you can enjoy more hiking, biking, and it’s a great time of year for stargazing! Visiting popular parks like Grand Tetons and Yellowstone during the off season brings the advantage of lower crowds but it’s also a very active season for wildlife viewing and the impressive fall foliage.

Alaska - Northern Lights

Most think of Alaska as a summer destination but visiting in the fall is magical. You can enjoy gorgeous fall foliage (peaking late September) with fewer crowds and moderate temperatures. Not to mention the dazzling Aurora Borealis can be seen between mid-August to mid-April.

Theme Parks

If you enjoy theme parks but don’t love the huge crowds and long lines that are typically associated with them, now is your time to go! Walt Disney World and Universal Orlando Resort have re-opened to guests but are operating at reduced capacity making crowds significantly lower! Both have implemented several new health and safety protocols including daily temperature screening, strict sanitization policies, and mandatory mask wearing to minimize exposure risks.

It’s also important to note that there have been changes or temporary closures of parades, entertainment offerings, character greetings, dining, and other in-park experiences. So, depending on your interests you may want to consider how this could impact your theme park vacation.

Personally, my family and I visited Universal Orlando Resort for a week in late July and I felt like the experience provided a great vacation at an exceptional value. You can read more about our trip and what it’s like visiting a theme park in the days of the “new normal”.

Glamping

Epic scenery and an unplugged setting provide the perfect backdrop to relax and re-charge. Glamping allows you to immerse yourself in the great outdoors, without sacrificing all of the comforts of home. Experience starry night skies and wild landscapes in a gorgeous, safari-style canvas tent that is the perfect balance of rustic yet luxurious. With locations from coast to coast, many nestled among some of America’s most popular national parks its a convenient getaway.

All Inclusive Resorts

Sun & sand are the perfect combination for relaxation (& adventure) anytime of the year, and all-inclusive resorts are an extremely popular vacation style. Mostly situated throughout the Caribbean and Mexico visiting these resorts during fall hurricane season can bring added risk but Puerto Vallarta, Los Cabos and Aruba are all safe bets outside of hurricane zone.

Currently, most have re-opened to American tourists but the travel restrictions and requirements do vary depending on the destination.
